Import from n8n or Activepieces

Bring workflows over from n8n or Activepieces, or restore a GoRunner export.

4 min · Cloud, Self-hosted and Embed

You need

An export
A workflow saved as a .json file from n8n, Activepieces or GoRunner. One workflow per file, up to 5 MiB.

Import

  1. In Workflows, press Import. Or drop the files straight onto the list.
  2. Drop your exports, or press to choose files. You can add several.
  3. Read each file’s row: how many steps came in, and how many are left to finish.
  4. Press Import. Inside a folder, the key reads Import into and the folder’s name, and the drafts land there.

You should see each file becomes a draft in Workflows, or is refused on its own. Nothing runs until you publish it.

What comes in

A step with an app here
Came in as that app, or as the nearest match.
A step with no app here
An empty step, with its settings kept, for you to replace.
A setting with no field here
Kept as a note on the step.
Connections
Never their secrets. A GoRunner export keeps its connections in the same workspace. Anywhere else, pick or add one for each step.
Passwords and tokens typed into steps
Come in empty. Type them again.
A workflow you started by hand
Comes in with the Manual trigger.

Otherwise, a GoRunner export comes in as it was exported.

Finish with Keel

A draft with steps to finish has Finish with Keel on its row. Keel fills in what the file couldn’t carry, on that draft. Or press Import & finish with Keel in the import dialog to do both at once. Or open the draft and finish each step yourself.

On Keel’s own page, /import opens the same file picker, and /finish finishes a draft you already imported.

Why was a file refused?

The row says why. Most often the file isn’t a .json, it’s over 5 MiB (export one workflow, not a backup), or it holds a list of workflows. Export one workflow at a time and drop each file.

Check it worked

Open the draft. Each step that needs nothing more shows no warning mark. Press Test, then Publish.

For developers

Preview an import reads a file and reports what would come in, without saving. Import a workflow makes the draft.
