# ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to GoRunner, then ask it to build, run and check your workflows.

## You need

- **A ChatGPT account**: Add GoRunner on the web. It then works in the ChatGPT phone app too.

## Connect ChatGPT

*Self-hosted only:*

[Since v2026.10.22](https://docs.gorunner.io/changelog/v2026.10.22)

*Cloud and Self-hosted only:*

1. In GoRunner, open **MCP** in the sidebar. If an app is already connected, press **Connect an AI app**. Choose **ChatGPT**; if it isn’t shown, press **All 13 apps**.

![The Connect an AI app panel with ChatGPT chosen. The ringed key is the one to press.](https://docs.gorunner.io/img/ai-apps/ai-chatgpt-light.jpg)

2. Press **Copy** next to **MCP server address**. In ChatGPT, open **Plugins**, press **+**, then **Add custom MCP server**. **Open ChatGPT** in the panel opens that page.

3. Name it GoRunner, paste the address and choose **OAuth**. Confirm, then press **Create as a plugin**.

4. Sign in to GoRunner when it asks.

5. On **Allow “ChatGPT” to use GoRunner?**, choose the workspace and what it may do, then press **Allow access**.

[Since v2026.10.23](https://docs.gorunner.io/changelog/v2026.10.23)

1. In the product you use, open **MCP**, press **Connect an AI app** and choose **ChatGPT**. Press **Copy** next to the address.
2. In ChatGPT, open **Plugins**, press **+**, then **Add custom MCP server**. **Open ChatGPT** in the panel opens that page.
3. Name it Workflows, paste the address and choose **OAuth**. Confirm, then press **Create as a plugin**.
4. Sign in with the account you use here when ChatGPT asks.
5. Choose what it may do, then press **Allow access**.

You should see “**Connected** · ChatGPT · Acme · 12 tools” in the panel.

It stays connected for up to 180 days, or until you disconnect it.

*Embed only:*

The panel shows your product’s name where these steps say Workflows. If ChatGPT isn’t offered, the product hasn’t turned on sign-in for AI apps: ask its support. If the product lets apps run your workflows but not build them, the address ends in `/tools`. ChatGPT can then only call your published workflows. See [Turn your workflows into tools](https://docs.gorunner.io/mcp/workflows-as-tools).

**What if the panel says ChatGPT can’t reach the address?**

ChatGPT connects from the internet, so it needs an installation with a public address. Otherwise, use an app on your computer, such as Claude Code.

**Can I use an API token instead?**

No, ChatGPT can only sign in.

**How do I disconnect ChatGPT?**

*Cloud and Self-hosted only:*

On the **MCP** page, under **Connected apps**, press **Disconnect** next to the app.

On the product’s **MCP** page, press **Disconnect** next to the app.

It stops on its next request. Remove it in ChatGPT too.

## What you can ask

*Cloud and Self-hosted only:* 13 tools: it reads, drafts and runs in the workspaces you choose. It publishes only if you allow it. *Embed only:* What it can do depends on what the product allows: building, or only your published workflows. If ChatGPT lists the server’s commands, try one:

- Build a workflow (when it may write drafts)
- Diagnose a failed run
- Explain a workflow

It can also call your own published workflows.

## For developers

AI apps connect through MCP (Model Context Protocol). ChatGPT adds the server `https://api.gorunner.io/mcp/build` and signs in with [OAuth](https://docs.gorunner.io/mcp/oauth). Self-hosted: your installation’s address, ending in `/mcp/build`.
